Creative Journeys: Teaching My First Art Retreat Abroad
Last month, I had my first experience teaching an art retreat outside the country—in Portugal—and it was unforgettable. The joy and fulfillment I felt teaching Painting & Play completely took me by surprise. I knew it would be fun, but I didn’t expect how deeply rewarding it would feel to have an impact and to encourage others in their creative journeys.

Our days were full of color, creativity, and adventure. We savored delicious gourmet meals, took a boat to a castle, wandered the charming streets of Óbidos with its flowers, historic architecture, and little shops, and enjoyed a picnic in a sun-dappled park. We laughed until our cheeks hurt, shared our stories, dreams, and struggles, and made LOTS of art.
It was inspiring, humbling, and energizing all at once. I came away reminded of the power of creativity to connect people, and I can’t wait to do more of this in the future.
